Sustainability
Yayasan Tunas Hijau Lestari is an Indonesian not-for-profit foundation created to catalyse projects that focus on conservancy of the natural environment of Indonesia’s land and oceans. It emphasises good environmental stewardship, good governance and strong community relations and involvement. In Indonesian, “Tunas Hijau” means green shoots, and “Lestari” means sustainable or perpetual. The Foundation is founded on the belief that philanthropic activity can lead to recurring revenue streams so that its projects thrive without continued charity. Thus, the Foundation provides the “green shoots” of conservation activity, chosen so as to lead to sustainable economic activity worthy of investment by impact investors.

Yayasan Tunas Hijau Lestari focuses on sustainable investment in natural conservation, rehabilitation and restoration through conservancy and biodiversity support services, natural conservation in forestry and aquatic activities, wildlife/nature reserves and parks, carbon management and ecotourism, and community welfare. It aims to fill two important niches in the ecosystems supporting sustainable business development in Indonesia:
To connect impact investors with quality business opportunities that encompass the principles of sustainable development, sustainable financing and ESG; and
To provide guidance to investors that sense an emerging opportunity as Indonesia transitions from a high carbon economy to zero emissions by 2060.
